- What are eggshell temporaries?
Eggshell temporaries (also known as “pre-operative temporaries”) are thin-walled temporary crowns/bridges (0.3–0.6 mm) created before tooth preparation based on an intraoral scan of the current condition – usually by 3D printing or milling. The term “Eggshell” describes the delicate wall thickness of the temporary crowns (with a hollow space for filling). They are produced in the digital workflow (printed or milled) and, after preparation, are intraorally filled with composite and provisionally cemented with minimal effort. The pontics are conventionally pre-designed and do not require further processing.
